HISTORY

Ecole des Sciences Nyamagabe was established in 1999by the government of Rwanda, it opened its gates as Ecole secondaire Nyamagabe. It has had such different names but the current best known is Ecole des Sciences Nyamagabe. Although there were earlier other Secondary  schools, Ecole des Sciences de Nyamagabe have become the recognized Science school originators. Their efforts led administrators and educational policy makers to establish similar schools throughout Rwanda, thus setting in motion the School Movement with rationale for foundation in developing Sciences. In 1999, the  number of students was 84 students and  by 2024, 890 students were enrolled. Ecole des Sciences Nyamagabe was established by policy makers of Government of Rwanda who found that working-class children required skills in Sciences.

Apart from Tronc Commun(Ordinary level/Middle School), The School had 4combinations: PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics), PCB  (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), MCB (Math, Chemistry, and Biology) and MPC (Math, Physics, and Computer).  The academic language for the school has been French, but from early 2009 the Rwandan government has switched its education system to English as Rwanda entered the East African Community(2007) and the Commonwealth(2009).

Consequently, the school is financed by Rwandan government and parents of students , who also encouraged to nominate children for enrolment. They are also encouraged to visit the school in order to advise their children for better performance; these subscribers, as such, are the forerunners of school inspectors. The teachers (men and women) are paid, by the government of Rwanda while parents are providing fees for feeding their children and other school materials
